Common questions about our work

Straightforward answers about how we support community-led change in South Africa.

What kind of projects do you take on? We focus on micro-initiatives that local communities identify as priorities β€” urban gardens, recycling co-ops, youth mentorship, and similar grassroots efforts. Each project is small enough to stay manageable but big enough to create visible impact within a year.
How do you decide which community to work with? We partner with existing neighbourhood groups, ward committees, or local nonprofits that already have trust on the ground. If a community approaches us with a clear idea and a committed team, we start with a short feasibility assessment together.
Do you provide funding or just consulting? We offer consulting, programme design, and facilitation β€” not direct grants. However, we help communities identify funding sources, write proposals, and set up basic financial systems so they can apply for small grants or run income-generating activities.
How long does a typical engagement last? Most projects run 6 to 18 months. We phase the work: discovery and co-design (1–2 months), pilot launch (3–4 months), then ongoing support and monitoring for the remainder. After that, we hand over full ownership to the local team.
Can a small business or school get involved? Yes. We work with small businesses that want to start a social responsibility programme, and with schools that want to create a community garden or a skills exchange. The same principles apply β€” start small, involve the people affected, and measure real outcomes.
What happens after a project ends? We stay in touch through quarterly check-ins and a simple impact report. Many groups continue independently, and some become mentors for new initiatives. We also share lessons learned publicly so other communities can adapt the model.
